Summer Activities in Nicklaus North

The Nicklaus North Golf Course is not only a summer playground for Golfers. After the course closes in the fall and the snow flies, the golf course is transformed into miles of cross country skiing trails. These trails are track set for classic skiers with a skate ski lane following beside. The cross country ski trails are maintained by the Resort Municipality of Whistler and if the the trails around Nicklaus North are not enough of a challenge, head toward Lost Lake where the network of trails expands to over 30 kms. For rentals, visit the Cross Country Connection.

Whistler Nordics is a community-based group of cross-country skiers of all ages and skills. They help to develop and promote the sport of cross-country skiing through a variety of methods including racing programs, clinics, social events and hosting of the annual WhistlerLoppet. Visit their website at www.whistlernordics.com.

Cross Country Skiing is not the only winter activity for Whistler adventure enthusiasts. How about snowshoeing, skating or going for a horse drawn sleigh ride. Over 10 kms of snow shoeing trials are available in the Lost Lake trail system and you can get on to the Hooktender trail just by the bridge over Fitzimmons Creek. Tickets are available at the hut near the Nicklaus North Golf Practice Facility. Visit the RMOW website at www.whistler.ca for a map of the skiing and snow shoeing trails.

The golf club has gracioously allowed trail users to park in the parking lot beside the clubhouse again this winter.

Blackcomb Sleighrides conducts scenic tours through the trails around Green Lake offering some spectacular views across the lake and up toward Armchair and Wedge Mountains. Why not combine a sleigh ride with a delicious fondue dinner at Table Nineteen restaurant in the Nicklaus North Clubhouse.

Once Green Lake freezes, the skating and hockey enthusiasts converge near the Harbour Air floatplane dock with shovels, sticks and pucks to play an endles game of shinny or just go for a skate. Across the lake beside the Edgewater Lodge is another great spot to go for a skate or a game of pick up hockey.
